Tully MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Line 92748 from GEDCOM File not recognizable or too long:
 DEAT PLAC probate@,Princess Anne,VA
!1782 princess anne co. VA Deed Bk 18: 138 on 14 Nov 1782 audit of the estate
of some Tully Moseley by Chas williamson and Jonathan whitehurst. Sounds like
this family with father Tully and mother Whitehurst, but all the Tully Moseleys
in this family already have apparent probates at other dates. Pending further
data we leave this Tully record as an uncertain relationship.

George MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Edith COCKROFT

[moseley1.ged]

Julia Combs letter of Jan 1994: "I have in my files a York Co., VA deed
abstract for the sale of land in Poquosin from Thomas Heynes to George Moseley
on 31 Dec 1655. This of course is not Arthur's son but simply shows another
George Moseley line". R#4228 George may be more likely from the York Co. line.

William MOSELEY Sr.

Margaret FOWLER? or HANCOCK?

[moseley1.ged]

Mary Margaret

[moseley1.ged]

Pr Anne Deed Bk 3: 521: She is 11 Aug 1722 to be executrix of her mother's
will. She appears to be one person Margaret (once? maybe "Mary") through her
life. Maybe"Mary Margaret"called Mary as a child because her mother was also
Margaret? From Stock list of 1701 and 24 Jul 1703 on LDS microfilm 0033172
Princess Anne Co. VA court minute book 1: the animal stock ear cropping marks
are on pages approx 1-35 at front of MinBk1 after index pages. e.g. marks for
24 jul 1703: Francis son of William Moseley, mark is [hard to
read, approximate] cropped [ear?], cross right ear, Mary (or Marg) dtr of
(ditto) same mark and slit in the cross (or crop?), Arthur Moseley son [may
actually say dtr or ditto from his sister's word "dtr" on preceding line] of
William Moseley SENIOR, same mark plus TWO slits in the cross/cropp in the
right ear.

Nicholas GILES

Served as a witness in 1749.

Charles FLOYD in Turpin Notebk

[moseley1.ged]

Sarah MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

The evidence that the daughter of Martha Cocke and Arthur Moseley married
this Thomas Edwards is mostly that he was a neighbor, as in page 240 Henrico
Co wills and deeds 1744-1748 where in a (Hancock to Friend) deed on Redwater
Run (now in Chesterfield Co) Thomas Edwards is listed as an adjacent landowner.
Redwater Mill is listed in more than one Arthur Moseley will so Sarah
Moseley presumably lived near there; Also Chesterfield Co deed Book 1 page
428, also p.453 3 Aug recorded 1750 says Thomas Edwards a neighbor to an
Arthur Moseley on Proctors Creek; Chesterfield Deed book 3 page 364 Jan-Feb
1761 wife of Thomas Edwards (deed to son Peter Edwards) released her dower but
doesn't give her name in the Weisinger abstracts (probably because not given
in original); The Turpin Note Book in Virginia Genealogist 31(1987): 5
(mentions only daughter, Martha and son, John as being from this (?surname)
marriage and it says Martha had (in addition to Sarah) a daughter, Martha who
died young; Sarah's marriage information there is unreadable now, but mentions
a word Floyd.
 FLOYD:
all that is certain is that Charles and Sarah Floyd's daughter martha married
the arthur moseley born bef 1744 who was nephew of the sarah moseley (who as
above apparently married a Floyd)  dtr of arthur and martha (cocke) moseley.
We decided mrs sarah floyd was the same as sarah moseley--but you would be
correct that we assert that without complete proof;

Josiah Wilson HUNTER

[moseley1.ged]

#LDS film 0001043 makes us unsure of his name and which mary moseley he married
!1893 wm & mary Quartrly 2: 77 of 1893 says josiah wilson hunter married two
mary moseleys, dtrs of tully sr,& of tully jr son of hillary(brother Of TullySr
*******************************************
!MARRIAGE:
we follow page 339 vol 1 of Dorothy Ford Wulfeck Marriages of some Viriginia
Residents 1607-1800 where Wulffeck reportedly says Josiah Wilson Hunter married
7 apr 1796 Mary Moseley, Princess Anne Co VA marriage record. He was son of
Jacob and Mary (Boush) Hunter and married (1) Mary Moseley, dau. of Tully Sr;
married (2) Mary Moseley, dau. of Tully Jr. son of Hillary;
SUCH A  DAUGHTER MARY, EXCEPT FOR HALF SISTER MARY ANN, HAD NOT BEEN COMPILED
FOR TULLY jR, SON OF hILLARY. sO MAYBE MARY IS THE SAME AS MARY ANN OR PEGGY
OR ONE OF THE DAUGHTERS PREVIOUSLY COMPILED FOR TULLY jR?? ;
*************************************
!DAR Washington DC library access #09609 on parnell-Moseley families page 77
quotes VA magazine 15: 230 "mary mosely hunter was daughter of josiah wilson
hunter and mary moseley his wife.  mary moseley was dtr of tully..".
this mary may not be the one who married drewery but only one obvious at moment
Marriage bond in Vol 1 of Elizabeth B. Wingo's Marriages of Princess Anne Co.
is the 1794 marriage of a mary moseley to a drewery.
#LDS film 0001043 makes me unsure of his name and which mary moseley he married
i.e wm or john or josiah wilson hunter married which mary moseley, so I
marry the hunter to the family that also married hunters.
richmond times dispatch 22 mar 1914 says the mary who married josiah wilson
hunter was ancestor of edward w. james, ca1900 norfolk va historian/genealogist
--however that newspaper's assignment of which mary moseley seemed incorrect.

Joshiah MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Moseley files of John Stutesman, at Chesterfield Hist. Soc., Chesterfield, VA;
he lists notes by great granddaughter, Annie Eggleston papers VA Hist Soc
Richmond; Land in 1799 a Charlotte Co Tax List, Joshiah Moseley 130 acres.
This is the first appearance of a  Joshiah Moseley in the surviving (1782 on)
Lists; Hunting for Bears, Box 278, Hammond, LA 70404, (504) 542-6122, list
county marriages for a Susannah (Moseley) (maybe NOT this one!!) (i.e. maybe
not related to this Joshiah) she married in Charlotte Co, 16 Oct 1797 to Wm
Robertson. probably susannah's desc of Edw moseley, but possibly of Joshiah.
HIS PROBATE ONLY MENTIONS KIDS ROBT W. AND MARY, BUT BEST EVIDENCE IS THAT
HE HAD A COUPLE OTHER LIVING KIDS THEN (SEE NOTES FOR JOSAIH JR).
LDS FHL salt lake Archive Family Group records, Joseph smith center apr 1998
by Eula Byrne of UT says joshiah d. 13 apr 1807, but 1818 may be from probate.
1783 state census was in chesterfield co va 1 white 9 blacks.
1785 (APPROX YEAR) CHARLOTTE CO VA TAX LIST: A JOSHIAH MOSELEY AND A PETER
MOSELEY WITH HIS TAX PAID BY JOSHIAH: SO HE'S LIKELY JOSHIAH'S BROTHER.
(joshiah tax included 2 boys 16-20 years of age, possibly borthers/cousins?)
THAT IS BASIS FOR SPECULATING THAT HE COULD BE THE PETER OF WILSON CO TN CA 180
--AS CHARLOTTE CO IS QUITE A WAYS TOWARD TN FROM WHERE HE WAS BORN.
however the peter guerrant moseley b. 1776 is more likely the TN peter moseley.

Peter Rev.War:Va.Line MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

John Stutesman's Moseley files, Chesterfield Hist Soc, VA : lists notes by grea
grandaughter, Annie, Eggleston papers VA Hist Soc Richmond; Richard T  Moseley
witness to Ann's bond suggesting Peter son of Richard; The above evidence
suggests he died bef 1829 but the following document seems to identify the
very same person and shows he was alive 1833; Virgil D. White, Genealogical
Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files (Waynesboro, TN: National
Historical Publishing Co, 1991), p. 2436: VA line, file S9037.
1785 (APPROX YEAR) CHARLOTTE CO VA TAX LIST: A JOSHIAH MOSELEY AND A PETER
MOSELEY WITH HIS TAX PAID BY JOSHIAH: SO HE'S LIKELY JOSHIAH'S BROTHER.
!1956 LDS microfilm 0001037: 1808 sit in chesterfield co va calls wife "mary".
so apparently he was NOT the peter who married nancy west in 1794.
Va Hist Mag 15: 323: june 1833 was date he filed for Rev War pension--not , as
the LDS Ancestral File asserts, his death date.

witness to Ann's bond suggesting Peter son of Richard; Thomas Moseley, Rt 2
Box 47A, Clifton, TX 76634 on 18 Jul 94 letter said there was a Wm Muse of
Chesterfield Powhatan, VA area who could have had a daughter. But only such
marriage I know is Wm Moseley married Sarah Muse daughter of Robt Muse of
Orangeburg / White Pond, SC  This Sarah Muse Moseley has been claimed by some
as mother of my Robert D Moseley ANCESTOR!
as transcribed by L.Andrea in lds microfilms 0954556(end)
&0954557(start) paragraph 99 and 128-138 says some of these moseleys were

--and paragraph 148a and 1810 census of abbeville co both refer to a samuel

  (born bef 1765, 1810 census return p.442 32001-10010 )
moseley in union or abbeville co. SC. he may be from one of these VA
families, but be an unrecorded child--but I won't insert him here for
now since these families are quite closely tied to documents.
lds film #0001042 says son richard to SC 1800/1 age 14.
We formerly thought maybe son richard was the same as jordan/jurden Moseley o
Abbeville Dist SC 1830 census,Richard's mother being apparently susannah JORDAN
See Jordan Moseley's notes in Appendix section on why we rejected sameness idea

Edward MOSELEY Capt.

In 1775, Edward was commissioned Captain of Chesterfield Co. militia. An
