Elizabeth MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Apparently no issue alive July 1773 from Creecy's Loose Papers, p. 55 and p.77.

Edward MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

On Aug 1768 this Edward was administrator of his mother, Elizabeth
Hughlett's probate. Wife, 'Anne' from the Princess Anne Will Bk. 01:036 signed
16 Jan 1784, probated 10 Feb 1785 ---whereas 'Wiggin' comes
from Princess Anne Deed Bk. 07:196 in 1750. The linkage between above 'Anne'
document and above 'Wiggin' document comes from "Princess Anne Loose Papers"
book by Crecy, page 77 where the widow of Palmer, brother of this Edward,
married William Wiggin--the same surname as the Princess Anne Deed Bk. 07:196
1750 will which mentions son-in-law, Edward Moseley.
Above Pr. Anne 1785 will mentions sons Edward, William, daughters, Nancy,
Sally, Molly, Susanna. Executors: friends Hillary Moseley and Isaac Jacobus.
Witnesses George Gaskins, Elizabeth Ferrar, Sarah Gaskins. The son Edward is
the Edward of  Norfolk Will Bk. 03:197 in 1798 because of the overlap of
sister Nancy,  and because the Pr. Anne will mentions a house in Norfolk town,
probably the same Edw Moseley house recorded as being burned 1776 in Norfolk
by British. (the other edw moseley d. in 1780's will doesnt list a son Edward).
!1999 Guardianships on CD-ROM by Heritage Books: Bowie, MD: Princess Anne Co,
Virginia Deeds, Wills, Guardianships by Anne E. Maling copyright 1999: continue
into 1794 for molly and sally, only to 1793 for wm: john Hunter was guardian.
!Prin Anne Deed Bk Abstracts DB16: 44 of 1779 j Montgomery lists an Adam
Moseley son of Edward. this is most logical Edward,so adam must have d. by 1784

Edward MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Edward was a carpenter. Norfolk Will Bk. 03:197 will 1798 mentions wife,
Ginnett/Jannet, son, Edward, sister, Nancy Moseley, witnesses M. Murden,
John Back, Peggy Whitehust. Signed 15 Mar. 1798, probate 16 Apr 1798. LDS
FHC microfilm 0844768: Lower Norfolk Antiquary Magazine vol 2 page 40:

Cocke, bondsmen being Edward Moseley and John Cock, as well as a (co.
clerk?) name on almost all the bonds of that year (Alex Moseley). Sept 1996
NGS Quarterly: Moseley article discusses why this Jennett Cocke marriage
was NOT in 1717.

Benjamin MOSELEY Infantry Officer

[moseley1.ged]

He was an Infantry Officer.  Benjamin6Wm5Arthur4-3-2Wm1 Moseley was frequently
confused with Benjamin6Arthur5-4-3-2Wm1 until articles by John Hale Stutesman
in Virginia Genealogist vol.29 p.243-251, 1985 and his book on Watkins Family;
Also VA genealogist vol 33 p.65-70 1989; this marriage of Susanna Povall
is taken from the FHC Center computer Ancestral File. There is maybe no
justification for it, but I retain it as a possibility because my wife Kay
Scribner Forsythe also descends supposedly from the Povalls--May 1994 Warren L.

19 oct 2000 email from colleen in OK colleen@crosstel.net asserts that a Taylor
grandson of Martha Brasseur's married a Sarah Moseley.  Trouble is that even
though her son James's son Bernard Taylor b. 1704 in new kent co va--he ended
up in Henrico Co VA--which brings up a totally different line of henrico
moseleys, instead of the moseleys of martha brasseurs first husband wm moseley
of essex co va; Colleen speculates Sarah moseley might've been son of an Arthur
moseley, so I insert her assertion here in case you want to contact her;

chooses Thomas Moseley his guardian makes (about age 14) sense in terms of the
reported age of this Arthur Moseley, this Arthur Moseley is the most likely
one in that area to be under guardianship at that time: Henrico Co Court

I guess that means Arthur started his apprenticeship then his brother
Robert was just over 12 years when he was bound out in 1744 maybe that means
Arthur was born slightly earlier than the given 1730 date??;  files of John

Came to Buckingham County in 1797.  John Hale Stutesman, his 13 notebooks , ms.

some Moseleys in John Hale Stutesman Some Watkins Families of Virginia and

  Stutesman cites Powhatan wills and deeds and one or 2 Cumberland records;
those notes say Ann was daughter of John Lewis of Belvoir and his wife,
Elizabeth (another place is looks more like "Beverdam' not Belvoir) McBride,
but one last note says another possibility was that Ann was a daughter of
Robert and Jane (Merriwether) Lewis. Note says see 1841- Eliz (Moseley) Brown.

William MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

Son on Walter's chart. Will 1773 mentions Aunt Mary Wishart, probated 9 Sep
1773, Princess Anne DB13:206.
William1Wm2Wm3Wm4 #4117 who married Elizabeth Thorowgood #4102. This is an
unlikely coincidence that this William also married another Elizabeth "Betty"
Thorowgood. Mrs Walter cites a Family bible from Texas for this. Family
Bibles, either through unintentional half-truths or the need to join DAR, etc.
This UNLIKELY COINCIDENCE should be SKEPTICALLY INVESTIGATED. Iris Borg
reports no confirmation at all in available records.
The possible relationship of the prominent Christopher Burrough(s), b. 1773
or 1774, to #6883 Burroughs Moseley & brother #6680 Christopher, see Pr. Anne
DBk 4:419 of 1732 on the relationship of Christopher Burrough to Argall
Thorowgood. p.17, 58 of Creecy, Loose Papers book mention same Thorowgood
relationship.  By 1785 census, some descendants were listed on N. side of
Tanners Creek in Norfolk Co.: a Christopher Haynes next to Elizabeth Moseley,
also Christopher Snail, various Denbys and Langleys.
Deed Bk 12: 152 of 1771 lists a Wm Moseley GENTLEMAN, son of Francis decd, an
Francis had married Margaret dtr of Wm Smith, Francis sold same land 5 Aug 1735
to Bartholomew Williamson, adj. land connected to Jacamine (Johnson) Hunter etc
Wm Moseley GENTLEMAN paid 475 pounds (money probably) for only 168 ac.

things wife Betty, children Mary,Margaret, nephew Francis son of brother Edward,a
exec. Lemuel Thorowgood ---which shows that his wife Betty had been as
recently as 12 Jun 1769 the Betty Thorowgood spinster, sister of Lemuel, in P.
Anne Loose Papers Bk p. 64, court action of 4 Jan 1771.
SIMILAR WILL WHICH IS A PUZZLE!:
Princess Anne Will Bk 01:02 William Moseley will written 8 Mar 1781 proved
11 Sep 1783 names wife Elizabeth, sons Wm, Arter [Arthur], Parin [usually
spelled Perrin].  Arthur is co executor with eliz so he born bef 1761!!!
the will refers to an earlier deed which calls him wm moseley SENIOR ca1762.
A william MOSELEY junior seems to appear first in Deed Bk 9: 432 of jan 176
wm moseley JUNIOR selling to anthony walke junior.

Margaret ELLEGOOD

[moseley1.ged]

We see no solid evidence for (and some evidence against) wm1wm2jon3francis4wm5
marrying anybody other than Betty Thorowgood, but pending careful review we
retain anyway Mrs. Walter's assertion of a marriage to Margaret Ellegood. Both
of these maybe the wrong Wm. Moseley that Margaret married. Norfolk Will Bk.
03:148 will of Elizabeth Moseley names a niece Peggy Ellegood, so if one of
the Margarets was an Ellegood, the one that married Wm. #6881 looks more likely
 Pr. Anne Deed Bk 7: 447 is cited by Walter for asserting surname "Ellegood";
however abstract book for 7: 447 doesn't mention Moseley--to the contrary
implies Margritt Ellegood probably unmarried 1753.
Pr. Anne Deed Bk. 7:305 and 9:133 which say Wm was alive in 1752 and 1756
respectively, and Pr. Anne Deed Bk. 7:447 which according to summary book only
says Ellegood's Will with daughter, Margaret and doesn't mention any Moseley
name, but Walter chart D cites that document as evidence #4577 married #4581
before 1754.
A mrs margaret ellegood in 1743 in deed bk 6: 223.
