Not yet age 21 in Princess Anne Co. VA Min BK 4: 344 on 6 apr 1737, but was age 21 in Princess Anne Co. Bk 06:009 by the end of 1740.  He was an only child. His will written 24 May 1782 and proved 10 Apr 1783. Princess Anne Deed Bk 18: 186: wife, Frances, boys, Edward Hack, Alexander, Samuel (under 21), Hillary, 3 granddaughters by [the presumably deceased] son, Bassett (according to Combs although we couldn't find anything in the 8 page will to confirm that Mary Bassett Moseley was in this family rather than daughter of Edward Hack, Jr as we had her previously): Mary Bassett Moseley,
Rebecca, Frances. Why are no daughters listed when we thought there were some of them living? Daughters could have been dead, except the dtr who married Walke which daughter possibly was financially wealthy?

SOURCES: Blankenship, pages 297-317; Combs, pages 1-26; Forsythe; Walter; Some Old Norfolk Families by H. Clarkson Meredith says grandchild #6869 William Walke married Mary Calver.

Mrs. Walter's chart says his will dated 1 Nov 1727 probated 5 Aug 1730 in folio 4 page 300 Princess Anne Co. Evidently probate does not mention any wives beside Hannah Hack, nor any children besides Edward Hack Moseley born 1717.  After Hannah remarried Col. Alexander McKensie of Elizabeth City VA, McKensie became guardian of Edward Hack Moseley, but no other child mentioned.

LAND PATENTS:  va pat bk 15: 126 in 1733 ed hack moseley pr.ann co. an island, marshy, in
joint patent with henry holmes and john jameson [ed h. was not 21 in 1733!]  va pat bk 18: 68 in 1738 ed hack moseley took over 551 ac of col ed moseley deceased in princess anne co.

Mary BASSETT

[moseley1.ged]

WARNING: we merely report the conventional compilation of the Bassetts who married Moseleys. If you are a descendant, you should ask more questions of why a famous royal descent line was asserted, rather than the obvious William Bassett line of the Norfolk area, e.g. Lower Norfolk Co VA Book 5: 22 of 1687.

Mary Bassett also married Capt. Edward Daingerfield. Mary's aunt (her mother's sister) Elizabeth Burwell is an ancestor of Pres. Harrison. Adventurer's of Purse and Person, 3rd ed. 1987, p. 145. Birth source:"Moseley Graveyard" transcription from Pr. Anne Co., VA retold on p. 638, The NC Hist. and Gen. Reg. Vol. 3, no. 2, 1903, reprinted Gen. Pub. Co. 1971.  page 1076, 1078 of A History and Genealogy of the Gookin Family 1991 ed by Richard N. Gookins cites p.351 Torrance's Winston Family of VA 1927 ed. and cites p. 556-557 of vol 4  and p. 203 of vol 2 of  genealogies of Virginia Families from Wm & Mary Qtrly 1982 Gen Pub Co Balt MD.

Mary MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

LDS fhl salt lake microfilm #0001043 confirms that she married Rev. Walke
and also says his first wife was jane Randolph, but we made a note: "Rev.
Walke has 2 appropriate wives and mary moseley probably too old for M__" [?].

Alexander McKenzie MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

LDS fhl salt lake microfilm #0001043 provides details on marriages and
says sons Alex Jr and Bassett are listed in father's will (might be nephews?)!
LDS FHL salt lake Archive Family Group records, Joseph smith center apr 1998
submitted by Eula Byrne of UT 1937. she cited Co. Records of Williamburg VA.
another source calls it "williamsburg wills p. 34", i.e. a compilation thereof?
page 1080 of A History and Genealogy of the Gookin Family 1991 ed by
Richard N. Gookins cites Abstr City of Norfolk Va 1784-1800 which leaves one
choosing between 3 different alexander moseleys, probably the one probated
in norfolk 27 oct 1800 w. kids: baset, alex, hannah, eliz, elinor/nelly.

Benjamine MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

See his FATHER'S NOTES here, for why BENJAMINE MIGHT have been BORN AFTER 1680.
--but it's because he NEVER APPEARS in ANY DOCUMENT until his DAD'S 1700/1
WILL. Will Princess Anne Deed Bk 03:158-159 written 16 Apr 1717, probated 5
Jun 1717:  Benjamin Moseley will: of New Town in Princess Anne Co., plantation
in Norfolk that was of her father's wife, Elizabeth. Children: Daniel,
Benjamin, Axwell, Dinah, wife's uncles, Richard and Charles Sayers. Will says
wishes wife get advice from Charles Sayer and Hillary Moseley. Witnesses
Edward Moseley Wm Brock. SPELLING mostly "Benjamine", may indicate way of
pronounciation?
To preserve all possible evidence of exactly who their mother might have
been, see Norfolk Co. Deed Bk 8: 26 where Joseph deeds to brother Benjamine
soon after settlement of their father's estate: land part of Dowing?
Plantation on Tanner Creek, witnesses Edward Denby, Mary Power and Sampson
Power. !SOURCES: Blankenship, pages 297-317; Combs, pages 1-26; Forsythe;
Walter. Gayle Blankenship puts a question mark on first marriage to Mary,
daughter of Wm and #1264 Blandina Blake. Previous marriage to Mary is a
possibility listed in Blankenship for which we haven't seen any documentation.
LDS FHLl microfilm #0001043 is not authoritative, but says his wife was
Elizabeth Sayre: if you become dissatisfied with our maiden name you could
consider Sayre. Film 1043 also speculates that his children Daniel might've
gone to Henrico and changed his name to Moseby (too far fetched, we believe)
and similarly Axwell might have reappeared in SC as "Alexander": nether
speculation seems justified.

Elizabeth MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

She was born bef 1699 from her father's will Pr Anne Co Va DB1: 225, the birth
date abt 1695 comes from her being already a widow with children, or at least
4 stepchildren, by 1717. Her father willed her the first child that shall
attain the age of 12 months of a negro woman Grace.
Death?: Princess Anne Co VA court minute bk 3: 42, May 1719 Estate of
Elizabeth Moseley, late of New Town. Since New Town was where Benj Moseley d.
1717 lived, this appears to refer to his widow.

Blandinah Goodwin? MOSELEY

[moseley1.ged]

marriage in elizabeth wingo's Norfolk Co. Va marriages book . the surety was
richard taylor. this blandina was mentioned in a norfolk will in 1757 as
apparently a young child, so I assume the norfolk marriage applies to her
rather than to the apparently older blindinah moseley, dtr of robert b. ca 171
who was recorded in princess anne co. and I assume she was the blindina who
married 1763 in that county.
CONFIRMED BY Braidfoot marr in 'Moseley Fam of VA by' Jean Stephenson 1912.
which lists a great grandchild of martha's. also chap 22 old churches and
families of va  portsmouth parish, norfolk co. va.
The following doesn't necessary apply to this blandina, but know of no other:
LDS film #0001043 says mar 1789 Matthew Moseley  willed all to cousin blandina
Ca 1750-1825 the matthew was  Unmarried, his will probated at Dale Parish,
Chesterfield County, VA. his line wm1arthur2arthur3wm4wm5matthew6.
