The original estate papers are in the N. C. Archives in Raleigh. It is not a will. It is a legal document whereby Robert's wife, Sarah, relinquishes her right to administer to the estate and appoints Alexander Lowarance. Sons, Berryman and Turner also relinquish their right and agree with Sarah's appointment of Lowrance. There are some papers describing the sale of goods, but it is hard to read.

Thank you so much for all the info re: Robert Abernathy. I do appreciate it! I have of copy of S8006 and thought that it ruled out that Robert Abernathy as the Robert Abernathy who died in St. Clair Co., IL.

I do believe that my Robert Abernathy is part of the Abernathys of VA & NC. In his will, dated 29 Dec, 1826, he lists as his children, Miles, Battee, & Eliza Vanwincle. Also, listed in his will, but not specifically as his children, Robert Abournathy (sic), Elizabeth Vanwincle, Sary Ann----(illegible), Susan, & Nancy Moore. He also refers to his wife, Sary Abournathy. The will was probated 26 Jul 1832 St. Clair Co., IL.

The above mentioned Eliza (Abernathy) Vanwincle m. Michael Vanwincle in 1824 in St. Clair Co. Michael was the nephew of Job Vanwincle who married an Elizabeth Abernathy in 1804 in KY. I don't how this Elizabeth is related.

One more little item that always makes me pause is that Robert & Nancy (Abernathy?) Moore had a daughter, Delilah Moore, who married a Wm. Nichols.

I have a copy of Robert Abernathy's (d. 1832 St. Clair Co., IL) if anybody wants it. Just email me directly instead of posting the request. Lynn

Ursula Bradshaw Abernathy, NC/IL
Posted by: Judy Kimsey Date: June 08, 1999 511   of 1693
According to the Lincoln Co. NC Heritage book, in the Bradshaw write-up,it says that Ursula Bradshaw Abernathy and her husband, Miles Abernathy, moved to Illinois. Can anyone substantiate this? When
did they move, and where? Any help greatly appreciated.

Miles, Ursula and Lincoln Co. NC
Posted by: Judy Kimsey Date: June 06, 1999      420   of 1356
I'm looking for documentation, or at least very strong and logical arguments, to try and sort out some the Miles Abernathy mess in Lincoln Co., NC. I know most of the current philosophy regarding these
questions, but I can't seem to find substantive evidence. If anyone can help, I'll be most appreciative.
1) Who were Miles and Ursula Bradshaw Abernathy's children? Those most often given are Nathan, Seth and Elizabeth. Others that keep popping are James, Philip, Isiah, Betsey (this could be Elizabeth)
and, from one researcher in Arvord's book, Michael. Can anyone substantiate any of these children, including the three usuals?
2) Miles and Ursula were married Oct. 6, 1781, in Lincoln County -- this is documented! However, I can't find a Miles Abernathy in the 1790Census. Did they leave the county? If so, anyone have any
idea where they went? Did they come back?
A CD of the 1800 Lincoln Co. Census shows one Miles Abernathy, listed as follows:
Males, under 10: 7; Males, 10-16: 1; males, 16-26: 1; males, 45 & over:1; females under 10: 2; females, 16-26: 3; slaves: 23. Which Miles Abernathy is this?
The 1810 Census Index shows five Miles Abernathys, but I haven't seen the actual census forms -- has anyone sorted out this batch of Mileses?Share??
3) Is there documentation for the Abernathy/Cline marriages -- I've checked several marriage indices, and can't seem to find them (which doesn't mean they don't exist). These would be: Seth, m. Mary
Cline, 12Feb.1803; Nathan, m. Eve Cline, 28 Jan.1808; Elizabeth, m. Philip Cline,12 Aug.1808.
4) Any reasonable estimated death dates for Miles and Ursula? When and where were they last spotted?
Apologies for being so long-winded, but this stuff is making me crazy!
Regards -- Judy
