Actually, it appears that Jones A. Farrar is son of William Farrar and Charlotta/ Charlotte Bynum who were married 27 Oct 1807 in Lincoln County, NC. There is a will dated 23 April 1845 in Perry County, MO for William. In it he names his wife: Charlotta, Children: Elizabeth J., Susan B. Alphonso, Jones A., Robert, William F., Mary P., Josephine, Disay, Samuel and Alonzo. William was born 22 April 1784 and died 24 April 1845. Charlotta was born 1788 and died 12 Jan 1863. They are both buried at York Chapel Graveyard near Longtown (Perry County), MO. According to the cemetery booklet written by the late Anne B. Rutledge, William was the son of Capt. John Farrar of the American Revolution and Elizabeth Abernathy. William was the grandson of Miles Abernathy of the American Revolution and Sarah Ann Jones (Batte). William and Charlotta are buried at York Chapel.

Bidda was the daughter of Robert Farrar and Susannah Abernathy. Robert was William Farrar's brother and the uncle of Jones A. Farrar. Robert was born 4 Feb. 1786 and died 22 April 1857. Susannah was born 27 June 1791 and died 13 April 1857. Susannah was the daughter of Roberty Abernathy of Kentucky and the granddaughter of Miles Abernathy of the American Revolution. Robert Farrar and his wife Susannah Abernathy were 1st cousins (Susannah Abernathy and her brother in law, William Farrar are 1st cousins!!)!! Robert and Susannah are buried at York Chapel.

Jones A. Farrar and Bidda Farrar are not only 1st cousins (due to their father's being brothers) but they are also 2nd cousins to each other (due to both of them having the same Miles Abernathy as their great-grandfather). It's a tree with many tangled branches. If Jones and Bidda are buried at York Chapel, their graves are now unmarked. Jones and Bidda were married 24 March 1842 in Perry County, MO.

From the 1870 Census it appears that James was born about 1864 and that the "B" stands for Bascom. I do not know where he is buried or when he died.

I have lots of info on the Farrar's of Perry County because I descend from John Burton Farrar who was born 24 Sept 1795 in NC died 13 Dec 1865 in Perry County. I believe he is somehow a cousin to your branch of the family but have not been able to prove it yet (he is also buried at York Chapel). Please email me and I will try and help you some more. If you are in the St. Louis/St. Charles area, you can call St. Charles Co. information for my phone number.

Hope to hear from you soon!!

Captain John Farrar (1738-1808) was the uncle of Captain John Farrar (1750-1830). John (1738) married Rebecca Puryear. His father was George Farrar who married Judith Jefferson. He was a captain in Virginia. John (1750-1830) married (1) Elizabeth Abernathy and (2) Elizabeth Williams. Elizabeth Abernathy was the mother of Robert Farrar who was born February 4, 1786. John's (1750-1830) parents were William Farrar and Winifred Clark. He was a captain in North Carolina. His grandparents were George and Judith Jefferson Farrar. This is the information I have and as far as I am concerned, none of it is in stone. Would love to hear from you and how you come down from Robert. John Farrar (1750-1830) was married twice and had 19 children. I only have information on 3 of them, so would also love to hear from anyone doing research on that line of the family. Have information on 6 out of the 10 children of John Farrar and Rebecca Puryear.

Jan,
It's so confusing because there were 2 Capt. John Farrars (uncle and nephew).

The Capt. John Farrar (#1) who married Rebecca Puryear was born 1738 and died 1808 (I think at his place on the Catawba River, NC). Capt. John Farrar (#1) was the son of George Farrar and Judith Jefferson. He was the brother of William Farrar who married Winifred Clarke. Thereby making him the uncle of your Capt. John Farrar (#2).

Your Capt. John Farrar (#2) is the one who married Elizabeth Abernathy. Capt. John Farrar (#2) was born 1750 and died 1830 in Tennessee. He was the son of William Farrar and Winifred Clarke. Capt. John Farrar (#2) is the father of the Farrar Brothers who came to Perry County, MO.

Your line would go:
1. Councillor William Farrar and Cecily Reynolds-Jordan
2. Col. William Farrar II and Mary [Last Name Unknown]
3. Major William Farrar III and Priscilla Baugh
4. George Farrar and Judith Jefferson
5. William Farrar and Winifred Clarke
[brother to Capt. John Farrar (#1)]
6. Capt. John Farrar #2 and Elizabeth Abernathy
7. Miles Farrar I and Agnes W. Barnett
8. Frances Caroline Farrar and Jones Abernathy Rutledge.

Hope this helps!
